Jakarta, November 19, 2024 – IPC Terminal Petikemas (IPC TPK), a subsidiary of Pelindo Terminal Petikemas, has once again been entrusted by Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) to handle the maiden voyage of the Koala Service with the vessel MSC Sijing Voy. FP444A, represented by MSC Indonesia. This vessel will operate on the route Jakarta – Fremantle – Jakarta – Shanghai – Hong Kong – Jakarta, with plans for the service to call twice weekly.
“IPC TPK is committed to strengthening collaboration with shipping lines and supporting customer businesses by ensuring reliable cargo handling services and berthing on arrival. The launch of the Koala Service will bring added value to businesses and contribute to the growth of export-import volumes between Australia and China,” said Pramestie Wulandary, Corporate Secretary of IPC TPK.
China is Indonesia’s largest export and import destination. According to the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), non-oil and gas exports to China in October 2024 amounted to USD 5.66 billion, while non-oil and gas imports from China reached USD 6.43 billion, the highest among Indonesia’s trading partners. Conversely, export and import figures with Australia have seen a decline throughout 2024. The Koala Service is expected to act as a catalyst for revitalizing trade flows between Indonesia and Australia.
The inauguration of this new MSC service took place at Terminal 3 of Tanjung Priok Port and was attended by Yanuar Evyanto, Director of Finance, HR, and Risk Management at IPC TPK; Hayati Koeanda, Deputy General Manager of MSC Indonesia; and senior management representatives from both IPC TPK and MSC Indonesia.
The MSC Sijing, a Liberia-flagged vessel with a length of 172 meters, width of 28 meters, and draft of 8.5 meters, berthed at Pier 301 of Terminal 3, Tanjung Priok Port, on Monday (18/11) at 6:00 AM WIB. Terminal 3, managed by IPC TPK, serves as a transshipment hub for cargo on Intra-Asia routes carried by other MSC services docking at Tanjung Priok Port. These cargos are then loaded onto the Koala Service for destinations including Fremantle, Australia.
The berthing of MV MSC Sijing marks IPC TPK’s sixth new service route introduced in 2024. The Koala Service represents MSC’s innovation in supporting businesses shipping goods across two continents—Australia and East Asia (China).
