Jakarta, January 30, 2025 – Kicking off the year 2025, IPC Terminal Petikemas (IPC TPK) has officially launched its first-ever direct shipping service from Jakarta to Djibouti. This new route, introduced by Marsa Ocean Shipping LLC under the name ARX Service, is operated by the MV Marsa Ivy, a container vessel with a capacity of 1,212 TEUs. The launch marks the establishment of a Direct Service to the African continent.

The MV Marsa Ivy has a LOA of 167 meters, a beam of 25 meters, and a draught of 7.1 meters. Its route includes Surabaya – Jakarta – Belawan – Djibouti – Jeddah. The Panama-flagged vessel berthed at IPC TPK’s Terminal Operasi 3 on Saturday, January 25, 2025.
According to CNBC Indonesia, citing data from Indonesia Eximbank and the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), Indonesia’s exports to Africa have shown stable growth, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of approximately 9.47% over the past five years. The five primary African export destinations for Indonesia include Egypt (37%), Cameroon (7.3%), Djibouti (7%), South Africa (6.1%), and Nigeria (5.5%), demonstrating the immense business potential within the African market.
The introduction of this new service is expected to enhance trade opportunities between Indonesia and Djibouti, as well as expand connectivity to key Middle Eastern ports, including Sokhna, Aqaba, and Port Sudan.
“We hope that this new service will further strengthen Indonesia’s export-import growth with African nations. This initiative aligns with the Indonesian Ministry of Trade’s ongoing efforts to foster stronger economic cooperation with African countries such as Djibouti, Uganda, Somalia, and Zanzibar,” Pramestie concluded.
