Palembang, January 24, 2025 – Kicking off the year 2025, IPC TPK has facilitated the first export shipment of coffee commodities from South Sumatra to Australia, totaling 19.5 tons. This initiative aligns with the South Sumatra Provincial Government’s efforts to expand the reach of South Sumatran coffee in international markets while also supporting the local coffee farmers’ economy.

Agustian Chandra, Manager of IPC TPK Palembang Area, affirmed IPC TPK’s readiness as the container terminal operator to handle coffee exports from Boom Baru Port to global markets. This inaugural export also presents an opportunity for shipping lines to call at Boom Baru Port.

The coffee beans exported via IPC TPK Palembang Area include Green Bean Arabica Grade 1 Specialty from Semendo and Muara Enim, as well as Robusta Grade 1 from Pagar Alam. The first shipment was officially released from Boom Baru Port, Palembang, on Sunday, January 20, 2025. Looking ahead, an additional 39.6 tons of Green Bean Robusta Grade 4 from Pagar Alam is scheduled for export to Malaysia.

According to Indonesia Coffee Statistics, South Sumatra contributed the highest share—26.85%—of Indonesia’s total coffee production in 2022. The province produced 208.04 thousand tons out of the national total of 774.96 thousand tons. With such significant export potential, this initiative marks a positive step towards advancing the local coffee industry, reinforcing South Sumatra’s position as one of Indonesia’s premier coffee production centers.
