Jakarta, December 19, 2023 – IPC Terminal Petikemas/IPC TPK continues its community empowerment efforts by providing skills training for residents around Tanjung Priok Port. This time, skills training is targeted at PKK Cadre Mothers and Housewives in the Papanggo Subdistrict, North Jakarta, through Hydroponic Plant Cultivation Training. Held at the Green Bisma RPTRA, this Environmental Social Responsibility (ESR) program by IPC TPK is organized to contribute to food security, support urban farming programs, and participate in the Jakarta Menanam (Jakarta Plants) movement initiated by the Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov).

“Through our ESR program, we will continue to promote empowerment through various forms of skills training for the community in the first ring of Tanjung Priok Port, which is one of IPC TPK’s operational areas. Moreover, IPC TPK also supports local government programs to green the capital city of Jakarta through hydroponic cultivation,” said Guna Mulyana, CEO of IPC TPK.

A total of 50 participants, consisting of PKK Cadre Mothers, Housewives, and RPTRA workers, enthusiastically participated in the Hydroponic Cultivation Training, a collaboration between IPC TPK and the Papanggo Subdistrict. The activity featured a hydroponics practitioner as a speaker to provide basic knowledge about hydroponics, guide practical planting sessions, and offer consultation sessions to all participants. During this event, IPC TPK distributed hydroponic planting equipment along with hundreds of seedlings of mustard greens, water spinach, and lettuce to all participants, enabling them to start hydroponic planting at home.

“I am very happy and grateful to IPC TPK for organizing hydroponic plant cultivation training in the Papanggo subdistrict. This is something new for me. Hopefully, by attending this training, I can start farming at home, especially if it can increase income. This training is very beneficial,” said Susi Wulandari, one of the training participants.

In addition to food security, hydroponic plant cultivation training is not only beneficial for waste reduction and exploring potential additional income for participants. This training represents IPC TPK’s support for the Jakarta Provincial Government’s call to reduce emissions in controlling recent climate change. The Jakarta Provincial Government also urges every segment of society to be more active in planting productive tree seedlings in their respective environments.

In 2023, through the ESR program, IPC TPK has organized various training sessions to enhance skills and build self-reliance among the communities around the port, such as Cooking Training to Foster SMEs in Lampung, Soft Skills Training (Digital Marketing, Graphic Design, and Intermediate Computer Operator) along with Competency Certification, and Driving Training along with the Provision of Driver’s Licenses for Unemployed Youth in the Tanjung Priok Port area.
