Jakarta, June 12, 2026 – PT IPC Terminal Petikemas (IPC TPK) has launched an innovative sustainability initiative through the IPC TPK ReWear Project, an upcycling-based textile waste management program that marks the first Corporate Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) initiative within the Pelindo Group dedicated to repurposing used employee uniforms.
Carrying the tagline “Small Steps, Big Impact,” the program aims to foster a sustainable way of life within the company by encouraging simple actions that generate meaningful environmental benefits. The initiative also supports the implementation of circular economy principles while contributing to the reduction of Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions through the reuse of textile materials that would otherwise become waste.
Through the program, IPC TPK has successfully collected more than 209 kilograms of used uniforms from various business units. The uniforms have been transformed into practical products with added value, including shopping bags, pouches, and laptop sleeves. In addition to extending the lifecycle of textile materials, the initiative promotes more responsible and sustainable waste management practices.
The global fashion industry is estimated to account for approximately 8–10 percent of global carbon emissions and generate more than 92 million tonnes of textile waste each year. In response to this challenge, IPC TPK introduced the ReWear Project as a tangible solution that not only reduces textile waste but also strengthens a culture of sustainability across the organization.
Daniel Setiawan, Corporate Secretary of IPC TPK, stated that the program forms part of the company’s commitment to implementing Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles while supporting the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production and Goal 13: Climate Action.
“Through the IPC TPK ReWear Project, we aim to provide a practical solution for textile waste management while raising awareness that sustainability can begin with simple actions in the workplace. This program reflects IPC TPK’s commitment to integrating ESG principles into our business activities in a sustainable manner,” said Daniel.
Beyond being a waste management initiative, the ReWear Project also demonstrates the active involvement of employees in fostering a more environmentally conscious workplace culture. Employees’ participation in donating used uniforms symbolizes the company’s collaborative efforts to create meaningful sustainability impacts.
By repurposing 209 kilograms of used uniforms, the IPC TPK ReWear Project has the potential to prevent approximately 5.23 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent (CO₂e) emissions. This environmental benefit is equivalent to the annual carbon absorption capacity of approximately one hectare (10,000 square meters) of tropical vegetation, while also saving more than 5.2 million liters of water.
IPC TPK hopes the ReWear Project will inspire similar initiatives across Indonesia’s port and logistics industry. Through this program, the company reaffirms its commitment to promoting business practices that not only enhance operational performance but also create lasting positive impacts for the environment and society.
