Jakarta, June 17, 2025 – As part of its commitment to food security and environmental preservation, IPC Terminal Petikemas (IPC TPK), through its Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) program, has partnered with the Women’s Empowerment and Family Welfare Movement (PKK) of Papanggo Urban Village to develop the Papanggo Compost Garden program, located at RPTRA Manggala Sunter, Tanjung Priok District, North Jakarta.

“As a container terminal operator located in Tanjung Priok, we are continuously contributing to the local community, especially those in the Ring 1 area of the port, specifically Papanggo,” said Pramestie Wulandary, Corporate Secretary & Head of External Relations.

This program addresses the issue of organic waste in densely populated residential areas. Previously unmanaged household waste is now being converted into compost fertilizer, which is used to grow a variety of food crops such as chili peppers, water spinach, spinach, and other vegetables. The harvest is used not only for personal consumption but can also be sold to provide additional income for local residents.

As part of its support, IPC TPK has provided compost shredders, large waste bins, and pest sprayers. These tools have significantly improved the efficiency of waste processing, which was previously done manually, and have reduced the financial burden on residents involved in urban farming activities.

The Papanggo Compost Garden program aligns with the policies of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, which encourages Urban Farming as a solution to food security, environmental greening, and responsible waste management. It also supports SDG Goal 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) and SDG Goal 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production).

“Through this program, we hope IPC TPK can continue to bring positive impact to communities surrounding the port, strengthen community-based food security, and foster a clean, productive, and sustainable environment,” Pramestie concluded.
