Jakarta, August 12, 2024 – IPC Terminal Petikemas (IPC TPK) welcomed the docking of the MV Meratus Kaimana on Monday, August 12, 2024, at 01:00 AM WIB at Terminal 3, Tanjung Priok Port, North Jakarta. The MV Meratus Kaimana, owned by Meratus Line, was dispatched from China and will be used for international routes, including the Surabaya-Jakarta-Nansha-Ningbo route. This direct service offers an economical alternative for businesses looking to ship goods to China without the need for transit in other countries.
“From the terminal’s perspective, IPC TPK will ensure the readiness of equipment and loading and unloading plans to provide efficient service, thereby reducing the vessel’s docking time and enabling it to sail promptly to its destination. Additionally, optimal service will also result in energy efficiency and reduced emissions,” said Guna Mulyana, President Director of IPC TPK.
The MV Meratus Kaimana, with a length overall (LOA) of 124.4 meters and a draft of 6.4 meters, has a capacity of over 693 TEUs and is the third vessel brought in by Meratus Line to strengthen its logistics services across Indonesia. The vessel is scheduled to load and unload 375 TEUs before departing for its next port on the same day.
The collaboration between IPC TPK and Meratus Line has been strong for several years. IPC TPK has handled several maiden voyages for Meratus Line, including PING (Panjang-Jakarta-Singapore), China Indo Express (Jakarta-Semarang-Surabaya-Qingdao-Shanghai), Java Malaysia Express Service (Jakarta-Port Klang), and Papua New Guinea Service (Jakarta-Surabaya-Dili-Motukea-Lae).
According to data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), China remains Indonesia’s largest export destination for both oil and gas and non-oil and gas commodities. In June 2024, the highest non-oil and gas export value was to China, amounting to US$4.65 billion, and the highest non-oil and gas import value was also from China, at US$5.34 billion. This presents an opportunity for new shipping routes to and from China.
“Meratus Line aims to contribute positively to Indonesia’s logistics services and meet the government’s expectations by offering direct services from Indonesian ports to international destinations. This service is designed to respond to the growing demand for shipments and address the challenges of a competitive international shipping market,” said Keith Choo, Chief Trade International Officer of Meratus Line.
The welcoming ceremony was held at IPC TPK Terminal 3, attended by IPC TPK President Director Guna Mulyana, Meratus Line CEO Farid Belbouab, Meratus Line CTO International Keith Choo, Meratus CTO Budi MR, Nusantara Terminal (OJA) Director Ravi, as well as IPC TPK and Meratus Line management.
“This marks IPC TPK’s third new service route in 2024. This year, IPC TPK is targeting a container throughput of 3.2 million TEUs. We are confident in achieving the targets set by our shareholders through operational transformation and collaboration with various shipping lines in providing direct service solutions,” Guna Mulyana, President Director of IPC TPK, concluded.
