Padang, April 28, 2026 – Container traffic at Teluk Bayur Container Terminal has shown a positive trend at the beginning of the year. PT IPC Terminal Petikemas (IPC TPK), as the sole container terminal operator in the Teluk Bayur area, recorded a throughput growth of 5.3% in the first quarter of 2026 compared to the same period last year.
From January to March 2026, container volume reached 27,188 TEUs, up from 25,814 TEUs in the first quarter of 2025. This increase reflects strengthening logistics activity in West Sumatra, in line with improved foreign trade performance.
Corporate Secretary of IPC TPK, Daniel Setiawan, stated that the achievement indicates rising cargo flows through the port. “The 5.3% growth in the first quarter of 2026 shows an increase in container volumes. We continue to ensure that terminal services operate optimally to maintain smooth distribution of goods,” he said.
The increase in throughput was primarily driven by a surge in exports of key commodities. Container volumes of gambier and palm fatty rose by more than 100%, followed by rubber, which grew by 6.18%, and animal feed, which increased by 2.34%.
As the main container terminal in the Teluk Bayur area, IPC TPK continues to strengthen its operational services by enhancing coordination with various stakeholders, ranging from shipping companies to service users. This effort is aimed at maintaining service stability amid dynamic port operations.
Data from the Statistics Agency of West Sumatra Province also confirms this positive trend. During the January–February 2026 period, export value increased by 42.94%, while imports surged by 110.58% compared to the same period last year. India, Pakistan, and China were the main export destinations, while imports were dominated by Singapore, Malaysia, and Canada.
With this trend, Teluk Bayur is further solidifying its role as a key logistics distribution hub in western Indonesia.
“The company will continue to sustain this growth momentum through service capacity enhancement and closer collaboration with stakeholders to ensure operational performance remains strong,” Daniel concluded.
